Wellness Testing and Immunizations
Prior to Fertility Treatment

Ensuring that you are in the best possible health before pregnancy may lower risks to you and your baby.
By completing the recommended testing, you will help improve your health before, during and after your pregnancy.

Are you up-to-date with an annual breast screening?

  • Women who are 20 to 39 years old should practice breast self-awareness and undergo an annual clinical breast exam with your primary healthcare provider.
  • Women 40 years and older should practice monthly self-breast exams and a yearly mammogram.
  • Discuss individualized recommendations with your ob-gyn, especially if you have a personal or family history of breast disease.

When was your last Pap smear?

  • Women 20-65 should have a Pap smear every 3 years. Earlier follow-up Pap &/or HPV testing should be completed if a Pap smear is abnormal.
  • Women who have a new sexual partner should have an updated Pap smear.

When was your last annual wellness exam?

  • CCRM requires that all patients have a yearly annual exam with their primary care physician to discuss family history and health risks that may affect general health.

Are you up-to-date on immunizations?

  • This will help protect you and your child from serious diseases. For example, rubella is a contagious disease that can be very dangerous if you get it while you are pregnant. In fact, it can cause a miscarriage or serious birth defects. The best protection against rubella is MMR (measles-mumps-rubella) vaccine, but if you aren’t up to date, you’ll need it before you get pregnant. Talk to your ob-gyn or midwife about maternal vaccines and visit the CDC Website.
