FAMILY BUILDING OPTIONS FOR LGBTQ COUPLES

Same-sex and transgender couples face unique fertility circumstances, and often must choose from a wide array of reproductive options. For example, lesbian couples select a sperm donor and can choose intrauterine insemination (IUI), where one partner uses her eggs and carries the pregnancy, or can choose in vitro fertilization (IVF) where one partner donates her eggs, and the other to carry the pregnancy. Gay men require both an egg donor and a carrier for the pregnancy. Trans men and women seek care for fertility preservation or family-building before, during and after medical and/or surgical transition.

All patients will have an initial consultation with their physician to discuss their medical history, potential treatment and financial options. The next step is diagnostic testing to uncover any barriers to fertility or pregnancy. Once testing is complete your CCRM doctor will develop a customized protocol and treatment can begin.

All couples using a third party for reproduction (gestational carrier or egg/sperm donor), regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity, are required to meet with our mental health team before starting treatment. This informative meeting is primarily focused on how to best support you and your future child around the issues of third party conception and is not an evaluation of any kind.

Our treatment options include: IUI or IVF with donor sperm, egg donation and gestational carrier services. In addition, egg or sperm freezing (cryopreservation) is available to preserve future fertility, including for those looking to delay pregnancy or undergo gender affirmation treatment. Thanks to the availability of effective fertility procedures, our LGBTQ patients have an excellent chance of achieving pregnancy.
